Burning Eiffel Tower Poster

This amazing image of the Eiffel Tower wrapped in flames was used on a French trade card used to peddle elixirs during Victorian times. The landmark was built for the Paris World's Fair in 1889. I went searching for information on this dramatic event and could find very little. Perhaps the artist of the trade card had a very vivid imagination. The dominant illustration shows very vivid colours and powerful contrast. It is an image that is difficult to ignore.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
