Burial of Saint Lucy Poster

Burial of Saint Lucy Poster

Discover the poignant realism and dramatic composition of Caravaggio’s Burial of Saint Lucy (1608), painted during his exile in Sicily and housed in the Bellomo Museum, Syracuse. This large Baroque masterpiece depicts the burial of Saint Lucy, the revered Sicilian martyr, whose story of faith and suffering deeply resonated with the local community. Caravaggio portrays the saint’s pale, serene body being lowered into the tomb by two muscular gravediggers, whose urgent movements contrast with the mourners’ restrained grief. The painting’s expansive space and chiaroscuro lighting create a powerful interplay of movement and stillness, emphasizing both the physicality of the burial and the saint’s spiritual presence. Commissioned shortly after Caravaggio’s arrival in Syracuse, the work reflects the city’s devotion to Saint Lucy and Caravaggio’s masterful ability to blend naturalism with religious symbolism. This museum-quality print is perfect for art lovers and collectors seeking iconic Italian Baroque religious art and profound emotional storytelling for their home or office.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
