From Dr. B. Mure's materia medica, published in 1854, a homeopathic text detailing experiments with poisonous creatures and plants. Bufo, Bufo aqua (Lat.) — Toad The term Bufo, derived from the Latin word for toad, was employed by early naturalists and physicians as a general designation for the common toad and its allied forms. In pre-modern zoology, Bufo did not refer to a single fixed species, but rather to a broad group of tailless amphibians characterized by a squat body, dry and warty skin, and prominent glandular swellings situated behind the eyes.
