Leaves of deciduous trees like maple, ash, elm and oak turn from green to spectacular shades of yellow, gold, orange, red to burgundy in the fall. Sugar maples, which grow abundantly in this fair land, create some of the most amazing colours. With its yellow painted stripe and blanket of leaves, the bicycle path becomes part of the natural environment. The two main areas of yellow catch the eye, the painted stripe and the bright leaves above, drawing the viewer into the picture. Yellow is a joyful colour, associated with optimism, sunshine and happiness. Many of the leaves on the ground are dry, they rustle and swirl around when you pass through. Deciduous trees shed their leaves every year with the approach of Winter. The change from green to multi-coloured happens because the trees stop producing chlorophyll, which makes the green pigment. By the time the winter winds blow, the tree branches will be bare ... in only a couple of weeks or so. I love this picture because it's so peaceful, you can almost hear the swoosh of the bike and smell the earthy scents of autumn. When you come to the crossroad, which way will you go?
