Brill Company 1926 M-1 Gas Electric Car Postcard

From www.railphotoexpress.biz The Narrow Gauge Brill Company M-1 Gas Electric Car was build by the East Broad Top Railroad shops under license from Brill Company of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. J. G. Brill and Company manufactured Street cars,Trolley cars, and buses in the United States. The company was founded by John George Brill and his son, George Martin Brill in 1860 as a horsecar manufacturing firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Brill manufactured over 45,000 Trolley Cars, buses and Street Cars. At its height,it was the largest manufacturer of street cars interurbans and Trolley Cars in the United States. In 1926, ACF Motors Company obtained a controlling interest in J. G. Brill. In 1944 the two companies merged, resulting in the ACF-Brill Motors Company. In early 1954, ACF-Brill ceased production and subcontracted remaining orders. The properties were sold, and on December 30, 1955, the company was merged with supermarket companies into ACF-Wrigley Stores Inc. The EBT Gas Electric Passenger Car was made from scaled down Brill model 250 Passenger Railcar plans. She was built from a kit (order #22416) which included a Brill engine, air tanks and #27 MCB trucks, Westinghouse electricals, traction motors and type AML brakes. It was built in 1926 - 1927 The Doodlebug could generate 300 HP and had Timken Roller Bearings. It survives today at The East Broad Top Railroad in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
