Bowling Game at La Ciotat in the South of France Ceramic Tile

This design features a painting by the American artist William James Glackens (1870–1938). It shows a group of people playing the traditional French game of boules (which is very similar to bowls). They are bowling in the city of La Ciotat, Southern France (in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region). La Ciotat is located between Marseille and Toulon. The scene is painted in bright colours. There are tall trees and grand house surrounding the bowling ground. In the distance can be seen the Mediterranean Sea and some mountains. There is also an orange sunset in the sky. The original art was painted in 1930.
