Botticelli Madonna and Child with 6 Saints 1470 Poster

Sandro Botticelli Madonna and Child enthroned with 6 Saints c. 1470 fine art Poster ... also called Saint Ambrogio Alterpiece. Saints shown are (across top)... Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist, Francis of Assisi, Catherine of Alexandria and, kneeling, Cosmas and Damian (patrons of the House of Medici). It is in fact most likely that the latter are portraits of Medici members. Lorenzo il Magnifico and his brother Giuliano have been considered. This painting is an example of sacra conversazione, in which the Madonna and Child are surrounded by saints. This was painted about the same time as the Madonna and Child Enthroned which Botticelli left, apparently, unfinished leaving Mary's robe under coat painted black ... but in this version Botticelli finished Mary's robe with the standard very expensive Lapis Lazuli blue stone imported from Afghanistan which cost as much by weight as pure gold! I had already used my lap top computer to turn Mary's unfinished black robe to a Lapis Lazuli dark blue then after seeing the brighter colour here I then re-colourized it to look more like this. Actually here he used white paint to lift the highlights more dramatically so when I brightened the blue on the unfinished painting I gave it more contrast. I think I did pretty it well. Right?
