Booker Taliaferro Washington: Black Educator

Booker Taliaferro Washington, born into slavery in 1856, rose to become a prominent African American leader and educator. His most famous speech, the "Atlanta Compromise," delivered in 1895, outlined his philosophy of accommodation and self-help.
