The grapes symbolise the wine in the holy communion. The background with its elegant gold vines and grapes on blue is from a vintage book cover binding by Margaret Armstrong (1867–1944), for the book "William Morris: Poet, Craftsman, Socialist", published in New York in 1903, now in the public domain.
