One of Vincent's last paintings, this is a serene vision of natural beauty and one of his most popular works. Most prints of it are cropped which makes it look unbalanced; this is the whole painting. I keep trying to get the colour balance perfect - so anyone who prefers it a little lighter, a little darker, more green, more blue, can choose from four versions now. The colours of Van Gogh's paintings had already begun to fade in his short lifetime; in a letter he wrote that because of the instability of the pigments his flower paintings were almost as fragile and short-lived as the flowers themselves. Today nobody really knows what the colours looked like when they were painted, we just make educated guesses.
