Everybody's got a favorite animal. I have about six dozen favorites, and not all of them are popular (though some are really, really popular). I know a number of intelligent, discerning little children who wish they could have a t-shirt with an axolotl on it. Or a velociraptor that actually has feathers like it's supposed to. Being an illustrator with a penchant for weird critters myself, I had to oblige them.
I'm a fan of bright, colorful illustration that makes people smile, or giggle, or snicker. I think conservation is important, and that "scary" animals are often just misunderstood. I think cuteness can help improve the overall kindness levels of the world, and that's good for all of us. I think mischief is an important means of self-expression for little kids and grown ups as well. I enjoy executing and falling victim to a well-planned practical joke. I think there is no age limit to enjoying cartoons. I anthropomorphize everything, including my car, my computer, pets, and wild animals that occasionally come to my yard and eat my flowers.
I hope I'm effectively communicating some of these values in my work, and I hope you enjoy it!
