Black Scoter, Audubon, Sea Duck, Birder Accessory, 6 Cm Round Badge

American Scoter Duck, as it was named in the early 1800's when John James Audubon painted this bird, is currently known as the Black Scoter. The Black Scoter is an ocean duck found up and down both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States as well as coastal Gulf of Mexico. Black Scoter nesting grounds range from the Great Lakes region, northward into Canada. The male of the species has a bright, yellow-orange base to it's bill. Black Scoter is a target bird for birders when birding along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
