Black Backed Jackals by Winifred Austen Poster
Vintage illustration wild animals design featuring a pack of black backed jackals in the African Savannah. Illustrated by Winifred Austen, 1909. The black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas) is a canid native to two areas of Africa. One region includes the southernmost tip of the continent, including South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. The other area is along the eastern coastline, including Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia. Compared to other members of the genus Canis, the black-backed jackal is a very ancient species and has changed very little since the Pleistocene Era. It is a fox-like canid with a reddish coat and a black saddle that extends from the shoulders to the base of the tail.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
