Bhutan Tiger's Nest Monastery Postcard

Tiger’s Nest Monastery, officially known as Paro Taktsang, is one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks, perched dramatically on a cliffside about 900 metres (3,000 feet) above the Paro Valley. Built in 1692 around the cave where Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, is said to have meditated in the 8th century, the monastery appears to cling impossibly to the sheer rock face. Legend holds that Guru Padmasambhava flew to the site on the back of a tigress, giving rise to its famous name.
