Beware the IoT bumper sticker

The Internet of Thongs (IoT) will be a surveillance nightmare. They're planning to put microchips in everything: cars, appliances, mattresses, clothing, food, etc. Data will stream out constantly, informing interested parties (companies, governments, hackers) where you are and what you are doing at all times. We haven't achieved the IoT yet, and already many people feel that their privacy is being violated because so many statistics are being collected from mobile phone use. Just think of your smartphone as a tracking and monitoring device, multiply that times a thousand, and you have some sense what the IoT will be like.
