Berlin Gendarmenmarkt Poster
The Berlin Gendarmenmarkt is a historic square situated in the heart of Berlin, Germany, renowned for its architectural grandeur and cultural significance. The square traces its origins back to the late 17th century when it was initially designed as a market square. It gained its name from the Gens d'Armes, the elite regiment of the Prussian army that was stationed nearby. The square evolved over time, and in the 18th century, it underwent a transformation under the guidance of prominent architects. The centerpiece of the Gendarmenmarkt is the impressive Konzerthaus, originally known as the National Theatre, which was completed in 1821. The symmetrical layout of the square is flanked by two identical cathedrals, the French Cathedral (Französischer Dom) and the German Cathedral (Deutscher Dom), contributing to the square's harmonious and aesthetically pleasing design.
Throughout its history, the Gendarmenmarkt has witnessed various historical events and cultural milestones. The square served as a venue for public gatherings, celebrations, and markets. It played a role in the tumultuous events of the 19th and 20th centuries, including the November Revolution of 1918 and the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The Gendarmenmarkt has also been a hub for cultural events, hosting concerts, festivals, and ceremonies. The Konzerthaus, with its renowned acoustics, has been a focal point for classical music performances, contributing to the square's reputation as a cultural centre in Berlin.
Today, the Berlin Gendarmenmarkt stands as one of the city's most iconic and picturesque squares. Visitors are drawn to its historic charm, the architectural brilliance of its surrounding buildings, and the vibrant cultural life that continues to thrive in this historic space. The Gendarmenmarkt remains a testament to Berlin's rich history and its enduring commitment to the arts and culture.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
