National flag of Belgium The Belgian flag is a vertical triband flag with black, yellow and red stripes. It originated as a horizontally banded flag in 1830, with the vertical stripes being introduced in 1831. The official national flag has a 13:15 ratio, but a 2:3 version is much more commonly used.
