Bear Island Light is located on Bear Island near the entrance of Northeast Harbour. Northeast Harbour is one of the towns on Mount Desert Island, where Acadia National Park is. The first lighthouse was built on this island in 1839. The current structure, shown on this design, was built in 1889. Bear Island became part of Acadia National Park in 1987 and the Lighthouse is not restored and maintained by the Friends of Acadia.
