The third of several adaptations coming out of a humourous print from an 1881 Italian illustrated periodical, Rana Giornale. This adaptation shows frogs dressed in street clothes along the waterfront sharing New Year's greetings on strips of paper with a frog swimming in the river. In the background, more frogs row a boat in the lake, others wave from a balloon and a train marked "1881," while one more frog sits on top of an erupting Mount Vesuvius watching the action below. Mount Vesuvius famous for burying the Roman city of Pompeii in 79 A.D., erupted 8 times in the 19th century, including once in 1881.
