B+O Railroad Excursion 1900 15 Cm Square Badge
From www.railphotoexpress.biz
In 1900 the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ran excursion Trains to Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Passenger Trains ran on the tracks of The Reading Railroad. The Philadelphia-Atlantic City, New Jersey, corridor was the setting for one of Pennsylvania's most intense railroad rivalries, The two vintage railroads involved were the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and the Reading Company (RDG) — specifically PRR's West Jersey and Seashore Railroad (WJ&S) and RDG's Atlantic City Railroad (AC).
In 1874 almost 500,000 passengers a year were coming to Atlantic City by railroad.
In March 1931, New Jersey's public utility regulators ordered the two companies to join their southern New Jersey lines into one company. The Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines (PRSL) was a joint venture of the Pennsylvania Railroad and Reading Company in southern New Jersey. The PRSL was formed in 1932-3 from the Pennsylvania Railroad subsidiary lines the West Jersey and Seashore and the Reading subsidiary the Atlantic City Railroad.
