B15 White Pelican Square Paper Coaster

These big water birds were a rare sight 40 years ago when I was young, now they are found on almost every pond, lake or river that has fish in it here in south east Alberta Canada. This area is prairie grasslands but the irrigation systems have created many reservoirs that have contributed to their population growth. Most of these bodies of water contain good amounts of natural fish like yellow perch, walleye, pike, whitefish as well as minnows like chubs and stickle backs, some are even stocked with rainbow, brook, brown or tiger trout. The abundant food supply has made this a popular place for these large birds to breed.
