Artsy Colourful Bright Sumac Leaves Abstract Art Tie

A detail view of sumac leaves in autumn creates a colourful abstract pattern of leaf segments and branches, in red, gold, orange and other dynamic colours. I gave this a posterising filter which brings out the shapes and shades and really makes it pop. I photographed these near water which appears in blue tones in the background and compliments the warm colours of the organic patterns. Sumac is a small tree or shrub growing wild or cultivated form in temperate to sub-tropical climates throughout the world. Sumac leaves contain tannins which are used in the tanning of leather in many countries including Israel and Morocco. The female sumac bears fruit in the form of hard berry-like clusters. The seeds or drupes are slightly fuzzy and you can eat them. In some areas they are ground up and sold as tangy spices. From native inhabitants, American colonists learned the secret of making a refreshing drink from the reddish seeds - and thus pink lemonade was invented.
