When I think of the impressionists, Claude Monet comes to mind. I think it takes a special kind of talent to paint what is there, yet not there. Impressionists did just that. A scene's clarity becomes less clear...and the process is done in a certain way to give you an impression. You can't clearly see the train or the people in this work, from 1877. In real life, those details exist. In this painting- nope. But what you get in return is the impression that a train is there, operating, blowing smoke. It must have taken massive talent to do that.
