Arearea (Joyeusetés, or Joyousness) by Paul Gauguin, oil on canvas 1892, is a painting of two young women and a large dog seated beneath a large tree by a lagoon. One woman gazes pleasantly at the viewer while the other plays a small flute, while in the background a procession of women worship a large totem statue. Gauguin created the picture during his first famous period in Tahiti and the south Pacific islands, bringing his style of Post-Impressionism into an era of primitivism and flattened, expressive colour.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
