Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel Poster
The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel - The Arc de Triomphe, one of the most iconic landmarks in Paris, France, has a rich history that reflects the country's tumultuous past and its enduring spirit of patriotism. Commissioned by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1805 after his victory at Austerlitz, construction of the arch began in 1806 and was completed in 1836, long after Napoleon's reign had ended.
Designed by architect Jean-François-Thérèse Chalgrin, the Arc de Triomphe was conceived as a monument to honour the French army's victories and its fallen soldiers. The monument stands at the western end of the Champs-Élysées and is situated atop the Place de l'Étoile, a massive roundabout from which twelve grand avenues radiate, symbolising the reach of Napoleon's empire.
The arch is adorned with intricate bas-reliefs and sculptures, and its massive size, standing at 50 metres (164 feet) in height and 45 metres (148 feet) in width, makes it a commanding presence in the heart of Paris. Inscriptions on the arch commemorate various French victories and the names of prominent generals and battles. Additionally, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier lies beneath the arch, serving as a symbol of remembrance for all the unidentified soldiers who perished in World War I.
The history of the Arc de Triomphe is closely intertwined with France's military and political history. It has been the site of numerous parades, celebrations, and state funerals, including the return of Napoleon's remains in 1840. Over the years, the monument has undergone restoration and preservation efforts to maintain its grandeur. Today, it remains an enduring symbol of France's commitment to its military and its enduring spirit of triumph and resilience. Visitors from around the world come to admire its architectural beauty and to pay homage to the nation's history and its soldiers.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
