Apollo 7 was launched on October 22, 1968, and was the first mission in the United States NASA Apollo program to carry a crew, astronauts Walter M. Schirra Jr., Donn F. Eisele, and Walter Cunningham, into space. The insignia for the flight showed a Command and Service module with its SPS engine firing, the trail from that fire encircling a globe and extending past the edges of the patch symbolising the Earth-orbital nature of the mission.
