The insignia is contains an image of the Greek sun god Apollo, an American eagle, red bars representing the U.S. flag; and three white stars symbolising the three astronaut crewmen; Eugene Cernan, Ronald Evans, and Harrison Schmitt. The background shows deep space, the Moon, the planet Saturn, and a spiral galaxy.
