Andrea Della Robbia c1485 Madonna and Child Holiday Card

Andrea della Robbia (20 October 1435 – 4 August 1525) c 1485 Madonna and Child with Cherubim Colourized 2024 by Mark Edward Westerfield. with frame. I minimally computer colourized the all white main sculptural area that had been left white some 539 years ago. So I added the golden halos, the blonde hair (common in the period), the flesh colour, and the unhidden part of Mary's blue robe. I purposely chose pale tint colours. I purposely left the cherubim wings, the central portion of Mary's garment, and baby Jesus' baby towel as they were, to keep the look simpler. I did straighten the image and I did add eye highlights. The eye pupils and brows were there already. The 'Robbia Blue' and gold were original with the pottery. It was a great blessing to have a very high resolution image to work with. And it was miraculous that this some 539 year old terra cotta pottery survived undamaged. The combination is such a blessing to do anything like this. And it is just gorgeous.
