Ancient Wari Stepped Diamond Motif Postcard
Ancient Peru Pre-Columbian Pre-Inca Wari (Huari) 'Stepped Diamond Motif' (also called 'Stepped Andean Cross' or 'Chakana' Andean Motif) ... Public Domain (without restrictions) Pre-Columbian Andean design circa 750 - 900 CE. Colours used include Cinnabar Red (toxic pigment used in Mesoamerica and South America), San Pedro Cactus Green (the hallucinogenic San Pedro cactus was consumed by Chavín, Wari, Palpi, Nazca, and Inca priests to achieve transformative states and communicate with the spirit world.), Sand, Rare Lapis Lazuli Dark Blue, Maya Blue (made from the plant found in Mesoamerica and South America called añil: Indigofera suffruticosa mixed with a rare clay called attapulgite), and Black (both the Maya and the Inca used genipa seeds to create the colour black). As found on the Ancient Wari (Huari) 'Stepped Diamond Motif' Tunic. Authentic Colours. Authentic design. The centre 'hole' in each 'stepped diamond' was The Centre of the World or The Centre of the Universe ... this being Cuzco / Cusco the capital of Peru. The 3 concentric 'circles' (here they look more to be almost squares) are also found in related Ancient Peru patterns such as the Nazca Mandala -- Estrella (Star) de Palpa -- Crux (Cross) de Palpa representing the 3 concentric wooden pole columns found in ancient Andean temples to the Sun and representing the 3 levels of life ... the highest (level of condors / falcons) ... the middle level (humans / panthers) ... the lowest levels (serpents, snakes). The Wari designs were highly geometric and abstract in nature. This particular Wari Tunic design appears to include bird beaks and eyes referencing the highest levels mentioned above. There seem to be 3 sets of paired colours which rotate together: the Sand with the rare Dark Blue Lapis Lazuli, the (toxic) Cinnabar Red with the (hallucinogenic) San Pedro Cactus Green, and the Maya Blue (añil: Indigofera suffruticosa mixed with a rare clay called attapulgite) with the Black (made from genipa seeds). I was able to re-create this authentic ancient design from an actual textile museum Wari Tunic the image which is marked "Public Domain without restrictions". I think it came out to look very interesting and in so doing I learned so history at the same time!

Way better quality than I ever expected. I love the colours, font and quality of the card. I'm so pleased I found Zazzle as it is near impossible to purchase Vintage or Retro Australian memorabilia online. I chose this design when I purchased them. They are perfect for my projects. I was very specific about what I wanted. I know where to come now when I need to order similar items.

Perfect for the occasion I was using it for.
I was able to delete the lines so I could put in more wording.
Had an envelope so the address side wasn't necessary. Print quality and paper quality lovely.
