Dragonflies (Thuswecha) were seen by Native Americans in a variety of ways; Lakota Warriors would paint Dragonfly symbols on their shields, believing that they would protect them against the enemies arrows and bullets. Additionally, the Lakota also understood the Dragonfly to be their Ancestors visiting them. They would come to the Lakota to help and guide the people. The Dragonfly is the messenger, always reminding the people to grow in harmony with nature and the sacred circle.
