This rare Leopard is the rarest in the world with numbers that went below 30 this beautiful creature came very close to extinction, thankfully their numbers have slowly picked up but even now there are estimated only 60 to 80 individuals left. Still listed as critically endangered their slow growth in numbers give some hope. The Amur Leopard has a life expectancy of around 12 to 15 years in the wild. There are in fact more Amur Leopards in captivity than there are in the wild with over 200 in captivity in zoo, and there are breeding programs to help increase the numbers. There have been several zool reporting successful births of the Amur Leopard. The Amur Leopard is extremely agile, and can leap up to 10 feet vertically and as far as 19 feet horizontally. Primarily found in the mountainous regions of southeastern Russia and northeastern China. They have been thought to inhabit the Korean peninsula, though there is no evidence of this. The Amur Leopards diet include deer, wild boar, rodents and birds, thought they will pretty much grab anything that comes along including small mammals like rabbits, badgers and even moose calfs. Amur leopards are protected under both international and national laws due to their critically endangered status.
