With the 48-star flag came the end of an era. The stars and stripes would henceforth be arranged in a manner prescribed by law, and the fanciful arrangements of stars came to an end (as did the custom of the "War Stripe"). Before this change in the Flag Code, a few amazing flags were made, some of them widely distributed. The Whipple Peace Flag is perhaps the most ambitious of these, quite beautiful and quite rare.
