Alphonse (Alfons) Mucha Art Nouveau Zodiac Year: 1896 Zodiac was one of Alphonse Mucha's most successful designs, first used as a calendar then featured in La Plume magazine. The signs of the Zodiac are featured in the circular background with a typical beautiful 'Mucha' maiden with her flowing hair in profile. Alphonse (Alfons) Mucha (1860-1939) was a prolific Moravian painter of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries and a key figure in the Art Nouveau movement. His style of painting influenced an entire generation of painters, graphic artists, draughtsmen and designers and in the minds of many, his work epitomises the Art Nouveau.
