Allegory of Catholic Austria Poster
This painting by Peter Paul Rubens, created circa 1620–1622 and housed at the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, is a powerful Baroque allegory depicting Catholic Austria under siege by Protestant forces. Executed in oil on panel (51 × 66.5 cm), the composition is charged with theatrical action and dramatic tension. At the centre, a female allegorical figure representing Austria is beset by armed attackers, while a mounted knight in armour, symbolising Catholic valour, rides to her defence. Above, angels descend from the heavens, reinforcing the divine support for the Catholic cause. The scene is crowded with tumultuous figures, banners, and dynamic gestures, all rendered in Rubens’s energetic, painterly style. This work exemplifies Rubens’s mastery of allegorical narrative and his engagement with the religious and political conflicts of early 17th-century Europe, particularly the Thirty Years’ War. The painting was donated to the museum by Antoine Valedau in 1836 and remains a highlight of the Musée Fabre’s Flemish Baroque collection

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
