I took this photo as a machine gunner in an infantry platoon in and around Fallujah. I was doing a sweep with my unit when we stopped to speak to some locals. I looked down the street and for a moment was stunned at the serenity of the moment. The sun was setting and for some reason most of it's energy seemed to be focused right on the minuret of the mosque. It was beautiful. One of my favourite images from that experience.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
