In the account of the Akedah (Gen. 22:1–19), the Binding of Yitzhak (Isaac), Yitzhak, before ascending Mt. When Avraham raises the knife to slay his son an angel stops him. Avraham then sees a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. That ram was offered in the place of Yitzhak.
