Achilles Slaying Hector Poster

This is a wonderful Homeric painting by Rafael Tejeo who died in 1856 in Madried at the age of fifty-six years. He was court painter to Isabella II and was known for his portraiture. This work was commissioned by the Infante Sebastian and was completed in about 1825. It portrays the dramatic moment in the Iliad in which the Achaean hero Achilles kills the prince of Troy in single combat witnessed by both of the warring armies.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
