A place empty of separation. A place of stillness. When the stillness of the tomb takes away my thoughts, then the words " I ", " me " and " mine " have no meaning. An acceptance that all things change and are impermanent, reminds me that I am also subject to this change, over which I have no control. The ' I ' is always changing. The concept of a self is dependent upon some form of consistency or permanence and separation. That is the delusion. A sense of self helps us navigate our lives, but it resides in thought, which is only about past and future. When the stillness of the tomb takes away my thoughts, then the words " I ", " me " and " mine " have no meaning. When visiting Durham Cathedral I found a tomb that created within me a feeling of total stillness. In this stillness, the words " I ", " me " and " mine " have no meaning. Perhaps that is the magic of many sacred places. A feeling of both connection and stillness.
