What keeps you from strengthening yourself in the LORD? If you're like me, it's usually the great liar fear. The shepherd- king David, found himself in despair when this was penned. His mentor Samuel was dead, he was rejected and denied safe passage by the Philistines. Amalekites had invaded and carried off his family and his men's families too. The questions from his followers were arising. Still, David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. This same strength is available to us too. Find it in verses like this: "David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God. 1 Samuel 30:6" The backlit Saguaro in this image is a stalwart guardian of the Sonoran Desert. As evidenced by the damage you can see, this one has seen some better days but, it stands strong in the face of extreme weather here in Arizona.
