A detail (the central portion of a long vertical map) from a 1776 map "The Provinces of New York and New Jersey; with parts of Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts Quebec and Vermont" High Resolution image suitable for large or small copies. This is a reproduction and may have been digitally enhanced to repair flaws, major stains, etcetera. The Adirondack region is blank and labelled "Couchsachraga" which translates roughly into something along the lines of "dismal wilderness." This is now also the name of a peak in the Adirondacks.
