Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984, was written as a projected future of Great Britain and the governance evolving there in the early 40's. To bypass the government censors, legend has it, Orwell changed the title of his novel manuscript to reflect a futuristic fiction set in 1984. "Newsspeak", as an example. If you want a real opportunity to know what's going on in America, read 1984. (The movie doesn't even begin to do the book justice) And as you read compare contemporary society and politics side by side with the goings on that unfold in the book. Eerily similar.
