09 Julius Caesar's 9th Gallica Legion - Eagle T-Shirt

This Legion was formed by Julius Caesar in 59-58 BC in Italian Gaul, from the far side of the Padus River, and amongst these soldiers' descendants were the Gauls who'd invaded Italy centuries earlier. The 9th Gallica served with great distinction during the entire Gallic Campaign, and also in Spain with Caesar. In late 49 at Placentia, the 9th Gallica mutinied, led by 120 officers who were impatient for their bonuses. Caesar originally was going to decimate the entire Legion, but ended up merely executing those 120 responsible ringleaders. After Placentia, the 9th Gallica continued to serve under him with great distinction throughout the Civil War with Pompey. It was disbanded in 46-45 with great rewards, and settled in Picenum. Like most Caesarian units, its emblem was the bull.
