04 Marc Antony's 4th Scythian Legion - Rome T-Shirt

This Legion was founded by Marc Antony in the years after 42 BC. It's unknown where it was first stationed, but the fact that it's known as the IV Scythica indicates it probably fought heroically against the nomadic Scythians at some point under Antony. In 31, Octavian/Augustus took over the Legion after defeating Antony at Actium. It soon saw much action in the region of the Lower Danube, where the Scythians also tended to roam. The Legion served under the future-Emperor Tiberius in his wars against the Illyrians and Pannonians from 6-9 BC, and one of its soldiers was the future-Emperor Vespasian. The Legion was disgraced in 62 AD when forced to surrender to the Parthians, but they would rdeem themselves over the years. Beginning in 66, it was stationed at Zeugma, a strategic point along the Euphrates that bordered both the Roman and Parthian Empires. It took part in nearly every conflict between the two powers, and the Legion was still stationed there centuries later. At one point, the Legion was commanded by future-Emperor Lucius Severus, who would use it in his successful campaign against the Parthians when he became Emperor. It served under Caracalla in 217, but very little is known of it after that. Its emblem was the Capricorn.
