01 Severus' 1st Parthian Legion - Roman Legion T-Shirt

This Legion, along with its sister Legions II Parthica and III Parthica, was founded in 197 AD by the Emperor Lucius Severus for his Parthian Campaigns, which culminated with the sacking of the Parthian Capital of Ctesiphon. After annexing Mesopotamia, the I Parthica remained stationed in that new Roman Province in a fortress called Singara, where it stayed for centuries defending the Empire against the Parthians, and later against the Sasanian Persians. Later inscriptions show that troops of this Legion also served in Lycia and Cyrenaica. In 360 AD, the Legion was still at Singara, where it was defeated by a Persian attack. Its remnants were transferred to Nisibis (modern Turkey), where it was last mentioned sometime in the 5th century AD.
