01 Nero's 1st Italian Legion - Roman Legion T-Shirt

This Legion was raised by Emperor Nero in 66 AD for his projected Caspian expeditions which were cancelled. It consisted purely of Italians six-feet tall or taller. Soon after Galba became Emperor and Nero killed himself, the Legion joined the rebels in Germania under Vitellius, and would be the bravest of those Legions that defeated Otho and the Imperial Gaurd. Soon after they led Vetillius into Rome, however, Vespasian was proclaimed Emperor, and his forces defeated those under Vetellius. The 1st Italica would serve in the Dacian Wars under the Emperors Domitian and Trajan, as well as under Trajan in his Parthian Campaigns. It would later be stationed for centuries in Novae (present-day Bulgaria).
