水に水車 COASTER
【みずにすいしゃ】水車紋、別名柄杓車（ひしゃくぐるま）紋ともいう。水車を象った紋である。水車は水力を利用して回す車で、輻に板をつけたものと、輪周に柄杓をつけたものと二種類ある。そしてこの柄杓をつけたものを呼んで柄杓車という。紋章にしたのは、この柄杓車であるという。しかるに、後世にいたって、この柄杓が槌の形に似ていることから、これをまちがって槌車と称し、わざと槌の形をまねて作ったことから、世間にある紋帳には、この名称をかかげている。しかし、それが槌を象ったものでないことは、この紋章の時代の古い物をみると、柄杓の綴目（とぢめ）を描いたものがあるだけでなく、「寛政重脩諸家譜」の土井氏の紋章を記した項にも、水車八柄杓と明記してあるのでもわかる。水車八柄杓というのは、八個の柄杓からできている水車の意味である。（「日本紋章学」沼田頼輔著より）／この図案は同書の「水ニ水車」を参考にさらに私の解釈を加えている。
