【ちゅうわにみずにつちぐるま】槌車紋。この呼称は「平安紋鑑」によった。／昔の水車は、先が板状のものと柄杓のものがありました。文様には柄杓の方が取り入れられ、これを「柄杓車」と称していました。柄杓車の柄杓の形は円筒形でしたが、これに丸みを付ければデザイン上では槌に変ってしまいます。つまり、槌を車（紋章デザインの一つ）につなげて水車として見立てたのが「槌車」なのです。（「家紋を探る」森本景一著より）
