Melanie, the F stands for Faille - the first complete catalog of Vincent's works was made by Jacob Baart de la Faille in 1928.  The JH numbers are from the catalog of Jan Hulsker, made in the 1980s.  Van Gogh scholars use the numbers a lot, they are the only reliable way to identify the pictures because Vincent drew and painted so many with the same subjects and titles.
