The Flemish painter Petrus Christus (born 1420, Baarle-Hertog, Belgium, died 1473, Bruges, Belgium) was an apprentice of Jan van Eyck, whose workshop he assumed after his death. He combined the influences of his master with the styles of Rogier van der Weyden and Robert Campin. Although Christus painted many religious subjects he particularly excelled in portrait painting.
