This oil painting features a stylised lotus flower with and emerald at its centre and two koi fish circling above it. The lotus petals are a rainbow of colours and represent the seven chakras; white, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. The blue-green emerald jewel in the centre of the lotus represents wisdom, love and harmony. The two koi fish circling the lotus flower are light tan with light grey spots and represent perserverance and strength. The background to the whole painting is black. After I finished the painting, I was told about a mantra called The Jewel In The Lotus. I looked it up and it fit this painting so well. The mantra is 'OM MANI PADME HUM and is known as the Mantra of Compassion. It is the highest Mantra for mankind, gifted to us by the Thousand Buddhas out of their compassion for all sentient beings.
